Shaking Font for Web Design Projects

I was working on a redesign for a boutique online store last week, and I needed a font that felt both elegant and approachable. The client wanted something that would reflect their brand's creative spirit without sacrificing readability. That’s when I came across Shaking, a handwritten script font from Script Amp. It immediately caught my eye with its flowing lines and natural variation.

A Natural Fit for Creative Branding

Shaking is a PUA encoded font, which means I could access all the glyphs and swashes with ease. Its varying baseline and smooth curves gave it a handcrafted feel, perfect for a brand that values authenticity. I tested it in the hero section of the site, placing it over a full-width image banner. The result was striking — it added just the right amount of personality without overwhelming the visual hierarchy.

The font has a soft, flowing style that works well for headings, call-to-action buttons, and decorative accents. I used it for the main headline, “Discover Handcrafted Goods,” and paired it with a clean sans serif font for body copy. This combination helped maintain balance and ensured that the text remained easy to read across different screen sizes.

Testing Readability and Responsiveness

One of the first things I checked was how Shaking performed on mobile devices. I noticed that while the font looked beautiful on desktops, it could become slightly harder to read at smaller sizes. To address this, I made sure to use it only for larger headings and kept the body text in a more legible sans serif typeface. I also experimented with line spacing and contrast to ensure that the text didn’t blend into the background.

Another thing I considered was the font’s performance. Since it’s a premium font from Script Amp, I made sure to use the webfont version so that it loaded quickly on the site. I also checked if it supported multiple languages and had alternate characters, which were important for the client’s international audience.

Where Shaking Works Best in Digital Design

I found that Shaking worked particularly well for hero sections, product banners, and blog headers. For example, I used it on a product landing page where the headline read, “Handmade with Care.” The font gave the page a warm, inviting feel that aligned perfectly with the brand’s tone.

In the case of a coaching website I recently designed, I used Shaking for the main navigation menu. It added a touch of elegance without making the menu hard to scan. I also used it sparingly in call-to-action areas, like “Start Your Journey Today,” which helped draw attention to key actions.

For a digital brand kit I created, I included Shaking as one of the primary display fonts. It was ideal for logos, social media graphics, and promotional materials. The font’s unique character allowed the brand to stand out visually while maintaining a sense of professionalism.

Font Pairing and Visual Hierarchy

When pairing Shaking with other fonts, I found that it worked best with simple sans serif fonts like Helvetica or Roboto for body text. This contrast helped create a clear visual hierarchy, making it easier for users to navigate through the content.

I also experimented with using Shaking alongside a serif font for a more editorial look. This combination was especially effective for blog posts and long-form content, where the script font was used for subheadings and the serif font provided a more traditional reading experience.

It’s important to remember that while Shaking adds personality, it shouldn’t be overused. I limited its use to headings, titles, and decorative elements to ensure that the overall design remained cohesive and readable.

Choosing the Right Font for Your Project

Selecting the right font is always a balancing act between aesthetics and functionality. In this case, Shaking fit the project perfectly because it had the right mix of elegance and approachability. It wasn’t too ornate, nor was it too plain — it struck the right note for the brand’s identity.

I also made sure to check the licensing details before using the font on the live site. Since it was a commercial font, I confirmed that it was allowed for use on websites, client projects, and digital assets. This step is crucial to avoid any legal issues down the line.

Overall, Shaking proved to be a great choice for this project. It helped elevate the brand’s visual identity and contributed to a more polished user experience. Whether you’re designing a portfolio site, a course sales page, or a small business website, this font can add a unique touch that sets your design apart.
